Millions of Kannada-speaking families live outside Karnataka — in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the Gulf and beyond. Keeping children connected to their mother tongue is one of the most meaningful things these families do. Our app was built with exactly this challenge in mind.
Children growing up outside Karnataka are surrounded by English (or Arabic, French, German) at school, with friends and in media. Kannada becomes the language of home — and often, it fades as children grow. By their teenage years, many second-generation children understand Kannada but cannot speak it fluently, and cannot read or write the script at all.
Thousands of Kannada families in the Bay Area, London, Toronto, Melbourne and Dubai have used the app to give their children a meaningful Kannada foundation.
Research on heritage language acquisition shows that consistent exposure from ages 2–7 — even just 10–15 minutes per day — significantly improves long-term retention of a heritage language. Our app was designed for exactly this situation.
The app is designed assuming the child and parent may not be surrounded by Kannada speakers daily — English guidance, audio-led pronunciation, and offline access all reflect this reality.
Many diaspora parents speak Kannada but are not confident their own pronunciation is strong enough to teach formally. Native audio on every card solves this — parents and children learn together.
Consistent daily micro-sessions — even just one category of flashcards and a quick game — build meaningful Kannada vocabulary over weeks and months. The app is designed for exactly this routine.
