Millions of Telugu-speaking families live outside Andhra Pradesh and Telangana โ in the US, UK, Australia, the Gulf and beyond. The US Telugu community is one of the largest Indian language communities in America, concentrated in New Jersey, California and Texas. Keeping children connected to their mother tongue is one of the most meaningful things these families do. Our app was built with exactly this challenge in mind.
Children growing up outside Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are surrounded by English (or Arabic, French, German) at school, with friends and in media. Telugu becomes the language of home โ and often, it fades as children grow. By their teenage years, many second-generation children understand Telugu but cannot speak it fluently, and cannot read or write the script at all.
Thousands of Telugu families in New Jersey, California, Texas, London, Melbourne and Dubai have used the app to give their children a meaningful Telugu foundation.
Research on heritage language acquisition shows that consistent exposure from ages 2โ7 โ even just 10โ15 minutes per day โ significantly improves long-term retention of a heritage language. Our app was designed for exactly this situation.
The app is designed assuming the child and parent may not be surrounded by Telugu speakers daily โ English guidance, audio-led pronunciation, and offline access all reflect this reality.
Many diaspora parents speak Telugu but are not confident their own pronunciation is strong enough to teach formally. Native audio on every card solves this โ parents and children learn together.
Consistent daily micro-sessions โ even just one category of flashcards and a quick game โ build meaningful Telugu vocabulary over weeks and months. The app is designed for exactly this routine.
